Men’s Track and Field Wins IC4A Championship, Women Place Fourth in ECAC Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. - The Navy track and field teams concluded competition at the IC4A / ECAC Championships on Sunday in Fairfax, Va.

Despite both teams having limited participants, the men's team placed first of 38 teams with 154.5 points in the IC4A Championship. The Mids posted 65.5 more points than second-place Army to win their eighth IC4A Championship in program history. Additionally, Navy has won the meet four of the last five times it has been held.

The women's team finished in fourth place of 37 teams with 52.5 points in the ECAC Championship and had the best placement among the six Patriot League schools.

Joshua Boamah was named the men's most outstanding performer for scoring 18 points combined in his two events. He won the shot put with a distance of 17.10m (56' 1.25") and placed second in the discus with a mark of 51.73m (169' 8").

A total of 32 (22 men, 10 women) Midshipmen earned IC4A / ECAC All-East accolades for placing in the top eight in their respective event.

"To perform as well as we did today despite only having a partial team on both sides was remarkable. To score as many points and have as many winners as we did shows how competitive this team is throughout," said Director of Track and Field Jamie Cook. "It can be a lot to handle whenever you come off a meet like last week and have to deal with finals immediately after. However, for these athletes to come out and perform the way they did was very impressive. They had a lot of fun and I'm really proud of them.

"We set a school record to end the meet in the men's 4x400m relay and that was unbelievable. Jacques (Guillaume) had an amazing split at the end. Joshua (Boamah) was named the meet's most outstanding performer and he continues to perform so great every week. He's always focused and knows how to compete. Coach (Chris) Campbell always has a great plan and Joshua loves going out and doing a lot of events. That's what our program is about.

"We didn't have as many athletes perform on the women's side due to other obligations, but the team still performed great to give themselves opportunities to qualify for regionals. To see Molly (Mangan) continue to add accolades to her terrific career was exciting. She always competes hard in every event and finished with a pair of top-10 times in school history today."
