Track and Field Splits Dual Meet Against Princeton

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams split the annual dual against Princeton on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House in Annapolis, Md.

The men's team (1-0) defeated the Tigers, 92-87, while the women's team (0-1) dropped a 103-74 decision.

The men's team claimed its fourth-straight victory against Princeton and now owns a 5-1 record in the series under Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook.

The dual scoring format was a 5-3-2-1 for individual events and 5-3 for relays. Two athletes from each school scored per individual event.

"We're looking for everyone to be present in the situation and understand what you can control. It's about how you compete, prepare, finish after you compete, what your mental focus is and how you attack the next situation," said Cook. "On the men's side we got the win, but on the women's side we got beat up pretty good. It's early in the year and there are a lot of things we can work on. We have some really good leaders and they're saying the right things. The message was clear and I'm anxious to see how the next few weeks go.

"I want everyone to understand the competitive nature of this sport and the things they can do to control their individual effort. You have to be ready to compete when your name is called. There is a small amount of opportunities you get to compete in your lifetime and anytime you're given the opportunity to compete, you have to take it very seriously."
